Favicon is a small image that is used on websites and are displayed in browser tabs. In this video, we discuss how to create Favicon or icon files using Photoshop. Icons by default have .ICO file extension. By default, Photoshop does not allow creation of icons. To create or save image as icon, we will be using a plug-in in Photoshop.

How To Load and Use Custom Shapes In Photoshop?

In this post, we'll see how to load and use Custom Shapes in Photoshop. But before we do, let us understand what are Custom Shapes. Custom Shapes are Photoshop files with a .csh extension and are vector based shapes that are re-usable in Photoshop. Photoshop comes with some default shapes in but are not adequate sometimes and we may need more. Or you may want to save your work as a Custom Shape so that you can use it later. You can create Photoshop Custom Shapes, or download from the internet and use it in your work.

Tools for editing photos for government exams online application in India

Most online applications for government exams in India asks for scanned photograph and signature in specific pixel size and image size such as -
Upload Scanned Images of Photograph and Signature:
The scanned images of photograph and Signature should be in jpg/jpeg format only.
Size of the photo image must be greater than 4 kb and less than 40 kb.
Size of the signature image must be greater than 1 kb and less than 30 kb.
Dimension of photograph image should be 3.5 cm(width) x 4.5 cm(Height) only.
Dimension of signature image should be 3.5 cm(length) x 1.5 cm(Height) only.
Such file size limits are set so that the web server space is not exhausted by letting candidates upload any image size as several lakhs or even crores of candidates apply for government exams. Even a photograph taken with smartphones in high quality will be at least 3-4 MB in size. If 3000 candidates apply, it will be roughly 3 GB of photographs!

I have had some novice computer users, especially relatives and friends ask me to edit their photos as per the specifications issued in the advertisements. And I have also advised them on free tools they can use to do basic photo editing for such purposes. If you have Adobe Photoshop great! Otherwise, let's see some of those tools which we can use for basic photo editing.
